                              <p class="paragraph" id="d8e328">Transparent-Bridges sind die Vorgänger der heutigen
                                 							Layer-2-Switches und wurden von DEC entwickelt. Sie werden seit Anfang
                                 							der 1990er Jahre nicht mehr hergestellt und wurden durch die
                                 							Layer-2-Switches abgelöst. Die Grundfunktion beider Komponenten ist
                                 							jedoch identisch und wurde im Standard IEEE 802.1d definiert. Dies ist
                                 							auch der Grund, weswegen wir mit einem Kapitel namens <i>Grundfunktion einer Transparent-Bridge</i>
                                 							beginnen, bevor wir näher auf die Layer-2-Switches eingehen. Die
                                 							Terminologie, die wir in diesem Kapitel vorstellen, wurde auf
                                 							Layer-2-Switches unverändert übernommen.
